The community garden project, which found a home on a half-acre plot in the park next to Morris Village, received approval from the city back in October.

Now the group’s volunteer organizers are raising funds to support the garden’s construction.

Operating as a non-profit, the community garden group is raising money to build raised beds, set up rain barrels and make sure the garden is accessible to all.

The group’s first fundraiser at Bad to the Bow pet grooming in Clarence Creek raised over hundreds of dollars with a raffle for customized gift basket for our furry friends.

“We raised $600, which we’re pretty excited about for our first go,” said Stephanie Marcil, one of the garden’s organizers.

A second fundraising event is taking place at Amy’s Little Plant Shop on Laurier Street in Rockland on Saturday, Dec. 10. Between 10 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., people are invited to come and get their holiday gift-wrapping done, take holiday portraits at a « seasonal photo nook » and participate in a local-items-only silent auction. A dozen businesses are participating in the auction, including The Mana Centre, Paint with Judith, Broken Stick Brewing Company and Café Joyeux to name a few.

The community garden is also running a GoFundMe crowdfunding campaign with a goal of $10,000. Information on the fundraising event and GoFundMe can be found on the Rockland Community Garden’s Facebook page.
