SIU invokes mandate after driver injured during arrest

Ontario’s police watchdog is investigating an arrest made in Rockland last week.

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested a 27-year-old man on Friday, March 20 at roughly 9:45 a.m. after officers received reports of a vehicle travelling at high speeds and in an unsafe manner. It was reported that the vehicle was involved in several collisions.

The driver, Jerome Morgan of Rockland, was arrested and charged with assaulting a peace officer, resisting a peace officer, impaired driving, and failure to remain at the scene of a collision.

The OPP said during the arrest, the suspect sustained an injury, prompting an investigation from the province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU)

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in L’Orignal on Wednesday, June 3, 2026.
