A student from Rockland District High School was stabbed by a colleague at the Giant Tiger on Laurier Street, forcing nearby schools into a “hold and secure” safety protocol Friday afternoon, September 29.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Around 12:30 p.m., both RDHS and L’Escale moved into Hold and Secure, a safety procedure bringing students inside the school, locking all exterior doors and continuing lessons as usual.<\/p>\n

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to the incident around 11:45 a.m. and located a youth with “serious, but non-life-threatening injuries,” who was then transported to hospital by Prescott-Russell Emergency Medical Services.<\/p>\n

Early reporting indicates a Grade 11 student was stabbed in the neck by a Grade 9 student at Giant Tiger following an altercation in which one accused the other of stealing their personal belongings.<\/p>\n

As the accused is under the age of 18 the youth\u2019s identity cannot be released under the terms of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.<\/p>\n

Police said there is no concern for public safety.<\/p>\n
