Cyr served as Ward 5 councillor for two terms from 2003 to 2011. Despite taking a break from municipal politics to raise his kids, Cyr knew he would return to council given he has committed to a career in government and politics.

“I’ve lived here all my life, and over the past 30 years, I’ve served our community on several cultural and sporting organizations ranging from Valoris, to minor hockey, soccer, and baseball,” said Cyr. “Politics isn’t just a job for me, It’s a passion.”

Raised in the community, and having lived in both urban and rural wards of the municipality, Cyr says he has “acquired a knowledge of local issues” setting him apart from the pack. His “proven, trusted experience” as councillor and community engagement are what he hopes residents recognize.

As he set out going door-to-door in his ward, Cyr says he started without a platform. Instead, he opted to hear from residents and build his priorities around the major issues they face. While taxation remains high on the list for residents in Cyr’s ward, other issues such as revitalizing the downtown core, enhancing cultural and recreational offerings, and balancing economic development with environmental management are important for residents as a new council seeks election.

“We have a lot of vacant properties on Laurier,” said Cyr on developing the downtown core. “We need to work with developers to expedite their projects and ensure we have certain standards and consistency, just like other municipalities.”

Additionally, Cyr hopes the city will make investments in marketing and promotional materials for Clarence-Rockland and promote it as a place to build and grow businesses.

Municipal elections will be held on October 24. All candidates and their contact information can be found on the Clarence-Rockland website. Voters are encouraged to visit VoterLookup.ca to confirm their registration status and update their information.
