{"id":138266,"date":"2026-04-17T23:33:24","date_gmt":"2026-04-18T03:33:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/visionrockland.ca\/?p=138266"},"modified":"2026-04-17T23:33:25","modified_gmt":"2026-04-18T03:33:25","slug":"city-urging-residents-to-prepare-for-possible-flooding","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/visionrockland.ca\/en\/actualites\/city-urging-residents-to-prepare-for-possible-flooding\/","title":{"rendered":"City urging residents to prepare for possible flooding"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>A flood watch has been issued for areas along the Ottawa River. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Residents in flood-prone and low-lying areas are advised to prepare for potential flooding as water levels and flows are forecasted to exceed minor flood thresholds over the coming weekend.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The City of Clarence-Rockland has activated its\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.clarence-rockland.com\/en\/alerts\/flood-preparedness-update\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Flood Management Guide<\/a>\u00a0and its Emergency Management Team is currently\u00a0preparing sandbag filling stations\u00a0to support local protection efforts.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The City has set up three sandbag filling locations to assist residents who need them:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u00a0Voisine Road \u2013 near the road entrance<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pago Road \u2013 vacant lot near civic number 450<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Wilson Road \u2013 vacant lot near civic number 243<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Sand is available on site, along with a container filled with tools and supplies needed to fill sandbags.<br>Practical tips and an emergency contact number are clearly posted at each location.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Recommended Precautions for Residents<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Residents in areas historically susceptible to flooding should take the following steps:\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Sump Pumps<\/strong>: Ensure they are clear, in good working condition, and equipped with a backwater valve.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Backup Power<\/strong>: Have easy access to a portable backup generator and pump.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Drainage<\/strong>: Clear downspouts (ensuring outlets are at least 3m from the dwelling) and driveway culverts of debris.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Secure Property<\/strong>: Secure or move any items that might float away as water levels rise.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A flood watch has been issued for areas along the Ottawa River.
