\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

If you have a talent, the City of Clarence-Rockland wants to see it \u2014 and hear it.<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The city is hosting its third annual Next Talent Competition, set to take place on May 24 at the Optimiste Performance Hall. The competition is open to all residents of Clarence-Rockland, with no age restriction for registrants.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe know we have talented individuals out there in Clarence-Rockland, and we want them to show us what they\u2019ve got,\u201d said Christine Sarault, the city\u2019s community and cultural activities coordinator, who organizes the event. \u201cThey are out there somewhere, and now it\u2019s their time to shine.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

So far, nine people have registered for the competition. Sarault said she hopes at least 15 participants will sign up to showcase their talents. Contestants are scored on their performance, originality and stage presence.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cEvery year, we\u2019ve seen this competition grow,\u201d she added. \u201cIf you want to sing, dance or play an instrument, we want to see what you can do.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In 2023, residents discovered the musical talents of Pop Rocks, a group of students from \u00c9cole secondaire catholique l\u2019Escale, who impressed the judges and won the inaugural competition. Audrey Faucon, a vocalist with the group, later appeared on La Voix and continues to perform at local events. She also returned as one of the judges for last year\u2019s edition.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In 2024, Ariel Shaw captivated judges and residents with her original song The Rain, which explores a young person\u2019s struggles with mental health.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

She is now studying English literature at Queen\u2019s University, hoping to refine her storytelling skills through music.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI love music, and I love performing,\u201d said Shaw. \u201cI want to learn every aspect I can in order to be the best musician I can be.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

She encouraged anyone considering the competition to take the leap.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIf you have a talent and feel you can do something meaningful that connects with people, you should go for it,\u201d she said. \u201cThe audience isn\u2019t always going to react the way you want, but as long as you get out there and try, that\u2019s what matters.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
