\u00a0<\/span>Voters across the province of Ontario are headed to the polls on Feb. 27 after Premier Doug Ford triggered the snap election.<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Voters can cast their ballot on Feb. 27 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

There are seven candidates running in the provincial riding of Glengarry-Prescott-Russell (116,463, 2021 census), which is currently served by Stephane Sarrazin, a Progressive Conservative (PC) who won the riding in 2022.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0The riding was held by the Liberal Party between 1999 and 2018 and former MPP Amanda Simard won the riding in 2018 as a PC candidate, before she left caucus. Simard lost the 2022 election as the Liberal candidate.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The candidates are:\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Stephane Sarrazin, PC candidate (Incumbent)<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Sarrazin was first elected as MPP for Glengarry-Prescott-Russell in 2022, after previously serving as the mayor of Alfred and Plantagenet and the warden of the United Counties of Prescott and Russell. As of March 28, 2024, Sarrazin became Parliamentary Assistant to the AssociateMinister of Small Business and Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Francophone Affairs.<\/p>\n

Trevor Stewart, Liberal candidate<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Stewart is a first term Clarence-Rockland City Councillor, representing the villages of Hammond and Cheney. Since 2021, he has worked as executive assistant to Francis Drouin, Liberal MP for the federal riding of Glengarry-Prescott-Russell.<\/p>\n

Thaila Riden, Ontario Greens\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Riden, an environmental activist who ran for the Ontario Greens in 2022, is a board member of the Vankleek Hill Nature Society, president of the non-profit ECO East, and operates The Grand Barn Community Garden Club.<\/p>\n

Jason St. Louis, Independent<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A former MMA fighter turned paralegal, St. Louis is running on a platform of \u2018\u2018transparency\u2019\u2019 and \u2018\u2018honesty\u2019\u2019 in government. St. Louis said running as an independent allows him to tailor his politics to the needs of his constituency.<\/p>\n

Ryden Finlay, NDP<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Finlay did not make themselves available for an interview ahead of publishing, however, her campaign materials and social media page accounts indicate she works in Information Technology, considers herself as a community organizer and is currently a Carleton University student. She is the Data director for Ottawa South NDP and a pre-election organizer for Ottawa Centre.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>Brandon Wallingford, Ontario Party<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

According to Wallingford\u2019s campaign materials, his platform, as well as the Party\u2019s, consists of a focus on firearm\u2019s rights and reducing economic dependence on the U.S.<\/p>\n

Felix Lambrosse, New Blue Party<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A 25-year-old private school professor of sciences, and professional radio sound engineer, Labrosse is running on a platform of abolishing the carbon tax, tax reduce, spending reductions, eliminating \u2018\u2018all form of diversity, equity and inclusion policies\u2019\u2019, and abolishing sex-ed curriculums.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
