Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Sergeant (Sgt.) Eric Mueller’s memory lives on through an annual golf tournament that raises important funds for the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO).
The third annual Sgt. Eric Mueller Charity Golf Tournament occurred on Saturday, Aug. 16 at the Rockland Golf and Country Club. This year’s edition of the charity event honouring Sgt. Mueller raised more than $50,000 for the the Sgt. Eric Mueller Memorial Endowment Fund that was launched to raise funds for the neonatal intensive care unit at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO).
Roughly 235 golfers were on the golf course playing, while about 285 people attended the post match dinner.
In memory of Sgt. Mueller
Sgt. Eric Mueller began his police career as a special constable in the offender transport unit in Ottawa and was later hired as a provincial constable in 2006 later being promoted to sergeant in 2018.
He was shot and killed after responding to a wellness check in Bourget on May 11, 2023. He is survived by his wife and two children.
His killer, Alain Bellefeuille, was found guilty of first-degree murder and the attempted murder of constables Marc Lauzon and François Gamache-Asselin. He was sentenced in a courtroom in L’Orignal Ontario on Saturday, May 24.
Bellefeuille received two life sentences that he will serve concurrently. He will have no chance for parole for 25 year and no chance of parole for 20 years for the attempted murders, also concurrently
