“Sticking to the German theme of the brewery,” stated Eric Mainville, co-owner of Brauwerk Hoffman, “we decided to pay homage to some of Clarence-Rockland’s rich history.”
Mainville and the other co-owners of the brewery announced the release of Rock Lite, a light beer with a low 3.5 per cent alcohol content, as “a thank-you to the Rockland community for their continued support” since the brewery began operations in November 2020.
Mainville explained how a traditional German light beer seemed a suitable tribute to the area’s heritage.
“The Rockland we know today started to take shape with the development of the L’Orignal-Bytown Road in 1840,” he stated. “Local farmers worked hard to clear the wooded area to cultivate this beautiful land. William C. Edwards, a young entrepreneur in the timber industry, named the area for the rocky nature of its landscape. Liechtbier, or ‘light beer’, are traditional beers used as drinks for labourers in fields and factories because of their low alcohol content.”
Louis-XVI Design, a local company, assisted with the artwork concept for the Rock Lite can. The beer is available through on-site sales at the brewery on Industrial Road and will be available on tap at select bars and restaurants in the Clarence-Rockland area.
