City urging residents to prepare for possible flooding

A flood watch has been issued for areas along the Ottawa River.

Residents in flood-prone and low-lying areas are advised to prepare for potential flooding as water levels and flows are forecasted to exceed minor flood thresholds over the coming weekend.

The City of Clarence-Rockland has activated its Flood Management Guide and its Emergency Management Team is currently preparing sandbag filling stations to support local protection efforts.

The City has set up three sandbag filling locations to assist residents who need them:

  •  Voisine Road – near the road entrance
  • Pago Road – vacant lot near civic number 450
  • Wilson Road – vacant lot near civic number 243

Sand is available on site, along with a container filled with tools and supplies needed to fill sandbags.
Practical tips and an emergency contact number are clearly posted at each location.

Recommended Precautions for Residents

Residents in areas historically susceptible to flooding should take the following steps:

  • Sump Pumps: Ensure they are clear, in good working condition, and equipped with a backwater valve.
  • Backup Power: Have easy access to a portable backup generator and pump.
  • Drainage: Clear downspouts (ensuring outlets are at least 3m from the dwelling) and driveway culverts of debris.
  • Secure Property: Secure or move any items that might float away as water levels rise.
