That’s a wrap: 34th season of Rockland Flag Football League comes to an end

Once the final whistle blew, everything was left on the field.

Though one team emerged victorious, with the other on the losing end, players from both sides celebrated and congratulated each other on another exciting and hard-fought season.

Team Chevy Trucks (in blue), captured the Silver Cup Championship with an entertaining 16-13 win over Team Chevrolet, who wore red, on Saturday, Nov. 2, at the sports field just outside l’École secondaire catholique l’Escale. This game marked the conclusion of the 34th season of the Rockland Football League.

“It’s the camaraderie, the friendships that really make this league,” said Fredd Epps, president of the Rockland Flag Football League for the past 33 years, after presenting the championship trophy to the winning team. “A lot of these guys have become friends after playing against and with each other for all these years, and it’s amazing to see. They come out here to compete, but they’re also out here chirping each other and having fun.”

Established in 1991, the Rockland Flag Football League hosts a draft each year to fill its six teams, which are named after businesses that sponsor the league annually.

Epps, who remains active in the league, has had the chance to play alongside his son and has seen how players come together to enjoy some football a few times a week.

“We have people who have been playing for years,” said Epps. “People have become so close.”
