As a newcomer to the community, Skarecky-Colwell saw an opportunity to immediately get herself involved and give something back to her new home.

“I moved here on the day of the wind storm, so I was able to meet my neighbours pretty quickly,” said Skarecky-Colwell. “But meeting others from the community took a little more time. I figured this might be a fun activity to be able to bring people together and support local businesses and community organizations.”

A long-time resident of Ottawa, Skarecky-Colwell noticed not many people venture east from the city with most events taking place to Ottawa’s west. Though a one-off event for now, she hopes to inspire more events like it to draw people in and introduce them to what Bourget and the rest of Clarence-Rockland have to offer.

“Bringing people out this way is kind of the hope, as well,” said Skarecky Colwell.

The market will take place on October 15 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and include live music performed at the Bourget pavilion, vendors, community organizations and children’s activities.

Participating in the event are the Clarence-Rockland Public Library, Penny Lane Farm Sanctuary, Rockland Youth Hub, various local vendors and musical acts Mercury Vice, Cyprus R.O., Tiffanypop and Erica Brighthill. The market is being supported by the Prescott-Russell Recreational Trail.
