Rockland’s Bianca Borgella representing Canada at 2024 Paralympic Games

 

Even though it’s the first time she will be representing Canada at the Paralympics, Bianca Borgella is making a name for herself as a competitive sprinter.  

 Borgella, was born with Leber congenital amaurosis, a rare inherited eye disorder that causes severe vision loss and with grit, determination and hard work, Borgella is quickly becoming a rising star in the world of Para athletics since she began competing in 2021. 

Competing in the T13 classification for athletes with visual impairments, Borgella, who resides in Rockland, won gold at the in 2021 and in In 2022, she won gold at the Canadian Track in Field Championships in the 400 metres, 100 metres, and U20 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/4_×_100_metres_relay in 2021 and 2022.   

At the 2023 World Para Athletics Championships in Paris, the local athlete won silver in the T13 women’s 200 metres and bronze in the T13 women’s 100 metres, setting a Canadian record for the event. A the same event, she competed on the Canadian universal 4 × 100 m relay team, placing fourth.  Going into the Paralympic Games in Paris, she is ranked number two in the world in the 100m.  

Borgella trained at the Ottawa Lions Track and Field Club.
